Stupid Computer

I keep trying to show a picture of  Ella but the computer keeps shutting down. They are obviously not as bright as they think they are.I however ,being a very bright basset, shall not be defeated so here I go again. This,I hope,is a picture of Ella on her first day in the park.

Good and bad news

As I said a short time ago little Gizmo was very ill.He sadly died after being biten or stung by something which made him cry and hold up his paw.He was taken to the vet who made a bad decision and sent him home when he really needed to be on a drip. When his mum phoned and said he was worse the nurse said give the medication time to work and take him to the Vetinary Hospital on Sunday if he was no better. My head of staff looked at him and said take him now but he died while he was being carried to the car.Apparently his poor little body couldn’t cope with the toxin of what bit him and his heart stopped.I  always go to the Vet Hospital when I don’t feel too good as my head of staff says that you pay for what you get and they are there 24/7 unlike other vets.So Gizmo’s live in friend Sam has been a bit down once he understood that Gizmo wasn’t coming back. The good news is that his mum decided that they both needed a new friend so Ella Arrived.

Mad Scientists

I had an email today  from my friend Hamble who tells of an article in the Telegraph which has the outrageous audacity to inform the world that Bassets are the least intelligent breed in tests carried out. They seem to infer, because of lack of interest on the part of us Bassets, that we cannot follow simple instructions or keep count of hiden biscuits. What a load of ***–***  as some people,of lower breeding ,would say.Has it not occurred to these eggheads that we do not follow instructions because we do not want to.A Basset does not feel obliged to pander to the requests of humans unless there happens to be something in it for us.We are also quite capable of counting as we know exactly how many biscuits we are allowed and do not bother to linger once the alloted number has been consumed. We come when called, after due considderation of the request and allow our staff just the right amount of authority to keep them happy, but we are always in charge of events. We just don’t let them know as they think we are complying with what they want us to do because we are obedient.Huh!You will  frequently hear Basset people remark that they are owned by a Basset. As this never applies  to other breeds I would put my case for Bassets being,in fact, the most intelligent breed and the scientists probably the least intelligent.

Summer is back

Summer is back and they are cutting the grass again. It’s not so bad this year as piriton and creams and eye drops are helping the dreaded hay fever. It does,of course, mean that I get extra grooming as all of my creases and under arms are cleaned and creamed three times a day.New puppies have arrived in the park and the pugalier, named Moxy, has decided to fall in love with me.This is making the humans laugh as Moxy spends a lot of time with her head in my mouth.Talking of humans,I don’t understand them at all.Last Christmas it was Curious village and this year it is More brain training. It just seems to be driving her potty as she screams”NOOOO”in capital letters and says I didn’t want to do that.I may be a Basset but I am pretty sure that you don’t get an answer when you talk to nintendo games.Someone called Michael Jackson is the main topic at the moment and head of staff says that when she saw the headline on the front page it was Deja Vou all over again as it was almost exactly the same layout as when Elvis died. Now Elvis I do know about as a day does not go by when he is not singing at me and his face adorns several walls. As a Basset I have no idea but she says the unfolding of the drama just mimicked August 16th in almost every way even down to the fact that they were both in rehearsal to go on tour. She does say, however, that she never actually “got” Michael Jackson although he obviously appealed to many people and it was quite sad that he  led such an unhappy life.No doubt the vultures will be picking his bones for some time to come so that they can get as much money out of him as possible.I find that  a sad thing and can only say that us canines never behave in that way.I am having a great time in the garden at the moment.I lay, very still,on the path and wait until I can smell a cat or a fox and then bay at my loudest.Unfortunately I then get told off and made to go inside but it is fun while it lasts.    By form Beau

We have had a week of nice sunshine so there are a few more friends in the park.It has become the 2 0′clock club and quite a few of us walk round at the same time.Being a Basset I find it necessary to wander off in random directions so that they have to wait until I have finished reading the leaves and discovering smells.I find that if you let them get far enough in front you have time to roll in any smell you can find before they can stop you.I am told that I am a disgusting hound but I think I am a rather clever hound as I can work out the exact distance and time before I can be stopped.OK sometimes I have to have a wash when I get home but I quite like a bath. The only fly in the ointment is that they have started to mow the grass in the park and it does not agree with my eyes so they have to be rinsed out to try to get rid of the pollen.Head of staff is considering letting the vet give me a brow lift.I will however have to think about that”cosmetic surgery indeed” I’m only 5.I am going to post a couple of pictures of my park friends. The big one is George and the little white one is Flopsy as he has the habit of flopping doww.Off for a nap BEAU

Head of staff going mad

I am,at the moment,in the care of a mad woman. She got a “Curious Village” game at Christmas and so far there has been much foaming at the mouth and gnashing of theeth.I thought presents were supposed to make you happy but I keep hearing threats of “chucking out of the window” being shouted at said game.It seems she has been stuck for a week on a puzzle where she has to make seven squares out of some dots.Everyone who comes through the door is immediately required to have a go,and fail. I am very glad my feet are too big to manage the problem or my,superior brain, would be called upon  to help.So befor she goes completely off her head, does anyone out there have the answer, after all I am supposed to be the centre of attention in this house and she is spending far too much time on this game. On  being a Basset she has researched alkaline bodies and has added Barley grass to my diet to see if that will help.If it does I can say goodbye to food which makes me itch and semi-orders to have a drink. There really is only so much a basset can drink.I hope that next time I see you She will be sane(or as normal)so that I can reume my rightful place as most important in house.

Finding Blogs from other Bassets

Hi there anyone watching.Head of staff has been a bit busy and has not logged on for me so  I have had to wait.I have asked her to search for other Bassets on WordPress but shw seems to be a bit thick about finding them.I make allowances for her age as I have realised that she quite often mispells words, when typing, which is quite bad for someone educated at Grammar School and with “real” GCEs.I have just come back from the park where everyone is in raincoats.I have a snazzy one in country green with checked lapels. Its main function being to keep my undercarriage dry as I am very close to the ground.Much shouting at the computer has been going on as the staff clicked onto what she thought was a windows message saying the computer was running slow so click to start spyware to correct .It turned out to be a virus with a message ,seemingly from McAffee,(but not). This messsage is impossible to remove from the screen and is there to collect your details so DO NOT OPEN.I’m quite glad my feet are too big to type.I can’t get the blame. The male half of the staff tried to get me in trouble the other day by claiming  that I told him that the female half said it was OK to give me a slice of beef(apparently I am not supposed to eat it.)I can’t see why not as it is very tasty. He lied,he didn’t send me to her to ask and just gave it to me.Not that I would have told him she said no anyway.I’m not daft.If anyone out there can give her tips on how to find Basset blogs let me know.I’m off now to patrol the premises.See you later   Beau

A Man and his dogs

I  was having my before supper nap when I noticed, from my position on the settee, that there was an interesting thing on the TV.It was all about dogs. How many shapes and sizes we are and how we are all wolves at heart.Sorry but I cannot imagine such a distinguished breed, such as myself, could possibly come from these tall pointy eared creatures who  LIKE SNOW.Let me tell you that snow is very cold and wet when you have short legs.Your undercarriage freezes and it is not nice.I have only encountered this stuff once and have no desire to meet it again. The wolves did make a lovely noise, much the same note I can reach when the staff are a bit slow in ansering the phone. The two cocker spaniels featured were just like the “sainted” Truffle and Rosie who used to live here.Truffle was the Golden one with the soft”baby seal”look and Rosie was the Orange Roan. She apparently had an attitude which showed in her face, just like the one on the TV.If she was asked if she had “done that” her stack expression was”if I have what are you going to do about it”.I  feel no need to  give  the LOOK,I just plant my feet firmly on the ground and pretend I’m deaf.I can’t say I approved of the museum of stuffed dogs as it seemed a bit undignified(remember I roll in fox poo)and I take issue with the fact that he said that Bassets were made to follow a scent for foot hunts as we can’t run very fast.Yes we can follow a scent very well and my nose is a constant cause of stopping our walks because of this, but I would challenge any human to keep up with me when I want to run.I am greased lightning and have great stamina for a chase.Just because we have exquisitly short, wrinkly legs it does not mean we are slow.We are only slow as a general rule because our noses demand that we investigate every smell thoroughly.Head of staff tells my many admirers that we don’t go for a walk we go for a sniff. So now that Martin Clunes has been told the truth about our running ability I can say that I did enjoy the program and wait for the  next one.My paws are now getting tired as I have not stopped since I came back from my” sniff”and I  probably  need ny mid afternoon nap.

Hayfever

I have discovered a thing called “hayfever” which I seem to have caught.Since being a victim of pollen allergy I have found out that it makes you itch and also makes your eyes sweel up and weep.I have also discovered that people never seem to stop mowing grass. If it isn’t in the park it’s in gardens or verges. There seems to be no way to escape the pesky stuff. We did however discover a place, which is apparently called a wood ,where there is no mowing and lots of shade and trees to sniff.Very nice on hot days and there is a stream which all of the retrievers lay in.I’ve had a sniff at it but not too sure about walking in a very big puddle.Still there are a lot of new people to see and dogs to meet but I hope to be able to go to my usual park soon as my besxt friend Wilton walks there.Head of staff is patiently explaining to a great many people that I am in fact a Basset Hound and not a sausage dog.Well off for a nap as hayfever pills make you sleepy.I am told that if I get any more laid back I will fall over.Cheek!
