Now that I am out and about again, after my brush with death,I can tell you of my thoughts. The first one is that there is an awful amount of medication required to put one back to rights.I have been informed,by she who must be obeyed, that it is a good job that she loves me or she would send me to Thai Land for soup.It seems pretty drastic to undertake such a long journey for a tin of soup but I suppose she knows what she is doing. At least I hope she does as she is the one in charge of my medicationI am told it is homeopathic and therefore very good.I should jolly wekk hope so too as I am worth it.At this point I think I should tell you I was born in Dorset, one of nine pups.Six girls and three boys.I was one of identical twins.I shall show you a picture of me at four weeks. The second in command apparently saw the posting on the internet and said”ugly little ***isn’t he?”He did however visit me and my siblings at six weeks and loved each and every one of us.The staff had to wait for a meeting of basset judges to decide which of us twins they wanted to keep as a show dog(our daddy was a Crufts champion)After much debating and “stacking”(see photo at four weeks)it was decided that they would keep my brother as they could not find a difference and my people clearly liked me the most.Mt litter sister Gracie was third in her class ,at Crufts ,when she was nine months old.You see a good breeding. So at eight weeks old I went to live in Beckenham Kent where I have since become the most important dog in the house.I do not deign to acknowledge that I am the only dog in the house.I am,however, constantly hearing the praises of TOBY being broadcast and Truffle and Rosie and Barney and Shan. They apparently reside at the end of the garden where flowers are placed infront of statues of dogs and I get told off for standing on them.Three foxes visit our garden and eat my leftover chicken,or some bought for them if I haven’t left any,and I would like to play with them but they are a bit nervous of me.My head of staff says that some people moan about them but we like them.We like Staffies as well but people say they are vicious. The ones I see in the park are jolly nice chaps so it must be as my person says”bad owners not bad dogs”.They do chase the squirrels in the park but I find that a trifle undignified so I just watch with a superior expression as they exhaust themselves and come back desperately in need of a drink.Talking of drink I have just been given my own drinking fountain and very nice it is too.I have fresh filtered running water all day.I used to drink from the waterfall in the garden, but just to be on the safe side(in case of bugs)the waterfall was moved out of my reach hence the fountain.Just wait till I tell the others in the park. They will be so envious.Need a nap now and to find out about othe basset blogs.
Back on my feet
Inconsiderate owners
As I dictate from my sickbed I gather, from my person, that I am ill because some people do not bother to clean up after their four footed friends and that the bug I have picked up is precisely because of this.Apparently if their dog is unwell(upset stomache)and they take them out and fail to clean up after them, other dogs walking on the same ground can pick up their bug.Worse still is a microscopic parasite which can live in the ground for months and if some poor unsuspecting soul licks the grass(as we do)they ingest the creature which then sets up home in our intestines. This mimics enteritis and is often misdiagnosed as such because most vets don’t test for giardia. This dreadful bug takes many months to expel and those of us unlucky enough to pick it up,suffer recurring bouts of being very unwell. So come on you dog people.Make sure you clear up and if your dog has an upset stomach make sure he is recovered before you take him out to infect others.
Cannot get the staff
On reading the piece, dictated to my head of staff,I see that my FULL title has not been disclosed. It is General Beauregarde Horatio Butler. You see I am a long dog and therefore require a long and important name.I shall have to feign a little listlessness so that she remembers in future.Of course I will still answer to the name of Beau,as most people appear puzzled at the full name, because humans do like to make a fuss of me(understandble)and they find the short version easier to cope with.I have two permanent staff and extra drafted in on Saturdays. These are the offspring of my people and their children.I do however retain the place of “most important” in the house.I just have time for a quick photo oppertunity, for your interest,as I feel a walk is now in order.I will hope to hear from you.
Beuaregarde (General)
Hello world!
Greetings, people.
My name is General Beauregarde, and I am a Terribly Important Basset Hound.
This is my first blog, and it’s somewhat awkward to write as my paws are rather large. I therefore have to get my Person to do it for me, but she doesn’t seem to mind, and is rather good at dictation.
I look forward to keeping you up to date with all of my Terribly Important news, and perhaps being able to communicate with other canine bloggers, via their People. (Of course, if you’re not of suitable pedigree, I shall have to consider whether or not I can talk to you. Although I wouldn’t want you to think me breedist.
Do come and leave me a message. Meanwhile, good day to you.
Beauregarde (Gen.)
